TCS-EMT Institute Overview

The Trussville City Schools EMT (Elementary Math Teacher) Institute is a year-long professional learning experience for math teachers who want to advance their knowledge of pedagogy, math content knowledge, and effective instructional practices. Participants will attend two summer days of professional learning (flex days) and one professional learning day each month of the school year. The professional learning days throughout the year will be followed by regular walkthroughs and participation in the coaching cycle to enhance instructional practices. Participants will need to join NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics), attend the NCTM Fall Regional Conference, and take part in monthly walkthroughs/coaching cycle regarding the focus area for the month.  Participants will be expected to complete outside reading and collaborate with the other EMT Institute participants through meetings and a blog. Participants are expected to commit to full participation in every aspect of the institute. They will become leaders and mentors in the TSC system regarding 21st century math instructional practices.
